I can afford to miss it in music, but not in fatherhood — Adekunle Gold

Afrobeats star Adekunle Gold has opened up about the deep sense of responsibility he feels towards his wife, Simi, and their daughter, Adejare, saying they are the centre of his world.

Speaking on the NotJustOk podcast, the “Fuji” hitmaker said while he could live with setbacks in his music career, failing as a father or husband is something he would never accept.

Adekunle explained that his drive to give his daughter a better life continues to shape his music and choices. He revealed that songs like My Love Is the Same were inspired by his desire to create a brighter, more stable future for her.

“All I wanted to do is more for my daughter because I can’t afford to bring her into the kind of life I grew up living. It has to be way better. And that’s why I’m working hard,” he said.

“My family is my centre. I don’t joke with them. I can afford to be a failed musician, not a failed father or a man. That’s not negotiable for me,” he added.

Adekunle Gold, who is known for seamlessly collaborating with his wife, Simi, continues to earn praise for balancing fame, family, and authenticity in his career.
