Wedding bells: Kano govt invests N2.5bn to fund mass wedding

The Kano State Government has finalized plans to host a mass wedding for at least 2,000 couples, aiming to promote social welfare, strengthen family values, and support low-income residents.

The program is backed by a N2.5 billion allocation in the state’s 2025 fiscal budget, underscoring the government’s commitment to citizen welfare and moral discipline.

Deputy Commander-General of the Hisba Board, Sheikh Mujahid Aminudeen, said the initiative will assist vulnerable women, including widows, divorcees, and spinsters, while reducing the financial burden for couples ready to marry.

“This program aims to address social challenges in our communities by promoting marriage among those who are ready but lack the financial means,” he explained.

All participating couples will be required to register with the Hisba Board and undergo medical screening, including tests for HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, drug use, and genotype compatibility, to ensure the safety and health of all attendees.

Sheikh Aminudeen added that registration details and guidelines will be released once logistics and funding arrangements are finalized, paving the way for a well-organized mass wedding.
