A Nigerian Army officer, Lieutenant Samson Haruna, has been burnt to death by his wife after she allegedly set him ablaze during a domestic dispute at Wellington Bassey Barracks, Ibagwa, in Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
Lt. Haruna, who was also a medical doctor and served as the Regimental Medical Officer (RMO) of the 6 Battalion, reportedly got married to his wife, Retiyt Obadiah Dalong, just five months ago on April 21, 2025, in Jos, Plateau State.

According to reports, the tragic incident occurred on September 22, 2025. It was gathered that a heated argument broke out between the couple, during which the wife allegedly poured petrol on her husband and set him on fire.
The officer sustained severe burns and was immediately attended to at the Military Reference Section (MRS) in the barracks before being transferred to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital for further treatment. Despite efforts by medical personnel to save him, Lt. Haruna later succumbed to his injuries.
Security sources confirmed that the suspect has been arrested and is currently in custody while an investigation into the incident continues.
