Oyo: Police arrest cleric for possession of human flesh

The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of an Islamic cleric, Alfa Bashiru, after he was found with a substance believed to be human flesh.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Adewale Osifeso, disclosed this in a statement shared on its verified X handle.

According to the statement, officers attached to the Federal Highway Patrol unit intercepted a white bus with registration number XA 551 IRG around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the Toll Gate axis along the Ibadan Expressway.

Bashiru, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was found with the suspicious item. He reportedly told investigators that he purchased it in Lagos.

He has since been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, where further investigations are underway.

“The suspected item is undergoing forensic analysis to determine its authenticity and origin,” Osifeso stated.

In a separate development, police officers in Oyo recovered an abandoned Toyota Camry with registration number LSD 957 JX during a routine stop-and-search.

The driver allegedly fled the scene on foot after being flagged down. The vehicle has been taken into police custody.
