On Monday, Nigeria’s power generation reached a three-year high of 5,313 MW, making history.
The Minister of Power, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, received a statement from Mr. Bolaji Tunji, Special Adviser on Strategic Communication and Media Relations, that includes this information.
Adelabu consequently pleaded with Distribution Companies (DisCos) to use more electricity in order to avert a breakdown of the grid.
“When power is produced and not picked by the DisCos, it could lead to grid collapse as frequency drops.”
“Efforts will be made to encourage industries to purchase bulk energy,” he stated.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the federal government promised in May to produce 6,000 megawatts of energy by the end of the year.
In his ministerial speech in Abuja, Adelabu reported that on May 3, the nation’s power generation reached 5,000MW. He was summarizing the accomplishments of his ministry since President Bola Tinubu took office on May 29, 2023.
According to Adelabu’s pledge, Nigerian electricity generation would reach 6,000MW by year’s end if the industry continues to improve in 2023.
