Donald Duke, a former governor of Cross River State, stated on Friday that President Bola Tinubu is failing as a leader by purchasing a new presidential jet at a time when Nigerians are going hungry.
Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s top assistant, announced last week that the Nigerian president’s new presidential jet had arrived.
In place of the 19-year-old Boeing B737-700 that Nigeria had purchased under former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Onanuga claimed, the country purchased an Airbus A330.
But Duke argued that given Nigerians’ current economic situation, the action should be seen as a “leadership failure.”
“Buying a new aircraft or yacht or living large is a failure. You can’t have kids who are hungry and you are living lavishly, going to parties and wearing the biggest agbada.” as he ended his statement.
