Man spends 10 months in prison for sending his resignation letter via text to his boss who is a politician
Funke Adeoye, a Nigerian attorney, successfully secured the release of a young photographer named Nicholas, who was jailed for texting his resignation letter to his boss.
Interestingly, Nicholas’ boss, a politician and owner of a sizable photography studio in Abuja, had withdrawn the case from the police, but Nicholas remained detained until Funke’s team intervened.
This raises questions about the abuse of power and the need for legal protection for individuals like Nicholas.
Funke shared the story on X, revealing that Nicholas, a 26-year-old graduate and keyboard player, had sent a text message to his boss in October 2023 announcing his resignation.
The boss, enraged by the content of the message, had Nicholas arrested and charged with “intentional insult”.
Nicholas spent two days in police custody before being imprisoned in a Keffi prison cell with 189 other inmates due to his inability to pay the initial N100,000 bail, later reduced to N50,000.
Despite the boss’s letter to the office, Nicholas remained in prison until Funke’s team stepped in to secure his release, highlighting the need for legal aid and protection from abuse of power.
