In Faskarau, Jae Ward, Kaugama Local Government Area of Jigwawa State, three young girls have perished in a pond.
The girls’ identities were Maryam Salisu, 10, Bahayura Lawan, 10, and Lawisa Sule, 8, according to the state’s NSCDC spokesperson, CSC Adamu Shehu, who confirmed the occurrence in a statement.
He said the tragic incident occurred on Monday, September 5, 2022, when the three girls went to a nearby pond about three hundred meters away from the village to wash their clothes.

“The NSCDC Divisional Officer, Kaugama LGA confirmed that they received a distress call at around 1110hrs and rushed to the scene with the Divisional disaster management officers for a rescue mission. And together with the people of the community, they were able to recover the bodies of the three young girls after about 30 minutes of search and rescue mission,” the statement read.

Investigation later revealed that the girls after washing their clothes, decided to take a bath at the pond which eventually led to their death.
It was also gathered that about twenty years ago, similar incident occurred with three girls losing their lives to the pond.
The girls’ remains were given to their respective parents and interred in accordance with Islamic customs.
As ponds and rivers flooded, the State Commandant, Musa Alhaji Mala, expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and urged parents to take care of their children.
