Femi Fani-Kayode, former minister of aviation, says he has appealed to Iyiola Omisore, candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the Osun state governorship election, to work for Ademola Adeleke, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared the election inconclusive, saying the requirements for a winner to emerge were not met.
ICYMI: INEC fixes Sept 27 for Osun election re-run
Joseph Afuwape, returning officer of the election, had said the 3,498 cancelled votes were higher than 353, the difference between the two leading parties.
Adeleke had polled 254,699, while his closest challenger, Isiaka Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had 254,345 votes.
With 128,049 votes, Omisore placed a distant third.
Thursday has been fixed for a rerun election in seven polling units across four local government areas — Orolu, Ife north, Ife south and Osogbo.
Although all the 48 political parties will partake in the exercise, the contest is between Adeleke and Oyetola, and Ife is a stronghold of Omisore.
Fani-Kayode said Omisore has agreed that APC’s “reign of tyranny” has to end in the state.
“Iyiola Omisore will not let us down. He is my cousin and I have spoken to him. We are together. We will show Tinubu what happens when the Ifes stand together. We are going to end the APC’s reign of tyranny in the rerun on Thursday. @OfficialPDPNig’s Demola Adeleke shall prevail,” he tweeted.
