No fewer than five people including three secondary school principals, an account clerk, and a driver were killed on Wednesday in a motor accident along Oyo-Ogbomoso road.
One of the victims identified simply as Mr. Ogunremi, was said to be the Principal of Caretaker Community High School, Ogbomoso and was due for retirement next week.
It was also learnt that seven other people were seriously injured in the accident.
A source said those who sustained the injuries are currently receiving treatment at the BOWEN Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso.
It was learnt that the accident occurred while the occupants of the car were returning from a workshop at Oliveth High School, Oyo.
An eyewitness said a trailer driver had lost control while trying to avoid potholes on the road, and in the process hit the car conveying the victims.
He said the remains of the deceased had been deposited at the hospital.
But the Deputy Route Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Oyo State Sector Command, Oluwaseun Onijala, who confirmed the accident, said only three people died while 12 others sustained various degrees of injuries.
Onijala told journalists that corpses of the deceased have been deposited at the Bowen University Teaching Hospital morgue in Ogbomoso.
He added that the wounded passengers were still receiving treatment in the hospital.
Onijala said: “Information that five people died in the accident may not be accurate but the accident happened along the Ogbomoso-Oyo Road on Wednesday evening.
“Information available is that three people died while 12 other people were rescued. The corpses have been deposited at Bowen Hospital mortuary. Those that were rescued have also been taken to Bowen Hospital,” he said.
