The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the results of the 2026 first series of the Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates.
The computer-based examination was conducted across Nigeria between January 28 and February 14, 2026, with 10,480 candidates, including persons with special needs, sitting the exam in 166 centres nationwide.
Out of the total candidates, 3,429, representing 32.72 per cent, obtained credits in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
Of this number, 1,847 (53.86 per cent) were male, while 1,582 (46.14 per cent) were female.
The performance reflects a slight improvement compared to previous years, with 30.95 per cent recorded in 2024 and 26.96 per cent in 2025, indicating a 5.76 per cent increase.
The Head of National Office of WAEC Nigeria, Dr Amos Dangut, announced the release in a statement issued by the organisation’s spokesperson, Mrs Moyosola Adesina.
He disclosed that 8,418 candidates (80.32 per cent) have had their results fully processed and released, while 2,062 candidates (19.68 per cent) still have some subjects pending due to errors traceable to them.
Dangut said efforts are ongoing to resolve the issues and release the outstanding results.

He added that the results of 75 candidates, representing 0.72 per cent, have been withheld over alleged examination malpractice, noting that investigations are ongoing and findings will be presented to the appropriate committee for a decision.
He said affected candidates will be informed of the committee’s decisions.
Candidates have been advised to check their results via the WAEC results portal before proceeding to the digital certificate platform to access their certificates.

Dangut appreciated the support of government agencies, security operatives, education ministries, WAEC staff, examiners, and other stakeholders for their roles in the successful conduct of the examination and marking process, assuring that the council will continue to uphold the integrity of its examinations.
