300-level Computer Science student of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) University, Lapai, Niger State, has died following an alleged loss of N600,000 to betting.
The student, identified as Kelvin Danlami, was said to have used money given to him for house rent to gamble. He reportedly became deeply distressed after losing the funds.
According to fellow students, Danlami was later found unresponsive in his off-campus residence, prompting neighbours to raise an alarm and alert the authorities.
Confirming the incident, a student of the institution said the deceased had been under pressure after realising he could not recover the money entrusted to him.
“It is true that one of our colleagues lost his life after mismanaging house rent money due to gambling,” the student said.

Abiodun added that police operatives visited the scene and carried out preliminary investigations, while the family of the deceased has been contacted.
Further investigation, he said, is ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
