A Medical practitioner, Dr Adams Ayeni, has advised Nigerian men to always insist on carrying out a DNA test on ‘their children’, to ascertain if they are truly their biological children.
Ayeni’s advice was prompted by his recent experience with a patient whose daughter’s genotype is SS while her husband and supposed father of the girl is AA.
He went on to give a damning verdict on fatherhood in Nigeria, saying three out of 10 Nigerian men are not the biological fathers of their children which makes Nigeria have the second highest rate of paternity fraud in the world.

Narrating his recent encounter with a patient via his Twitter handle, Ayeni said the woman brought in her child and he discovered the girl has sickle cell disease. When he told her to come with her husband for counseling, the woman begged him not to inform the man because his genotype is AA.
He tweeted:
“A child was brought in by the mother with a PCV of 8%. We discovered that the child has Sickle Cell Disease. I informed the mother & asked her to come with the father so that I can counsel them together. She begged me not to tell the ‘father’ who is AA. Guys, DNA test is a must!”
In another tweet, Ayeni wrote:
“3 out of 10 Nigerian men are not biological fathers of their children. Nigeria has the 2nd highest rate of paternity fraud in the world after Jamaica. Many men have been unknowingly raising children that are not theirs & to curb the trend, DNA test should be considered at birth.
